Hiya friends!

I've been seriously slacking with wearing makeup over the past month. I've been going to work sans makeup and pretty much only wearing it on special occasions.

Last week was my 25th birthday, so I had to figure something out for going out to dinner.

I pulled out just about all of my eye shadow palettes and laid them out on my bed trying to figure out what kind of look I wanted to do. Smoky? Glitter? Halo? So many endless possibilities. As soon as I picked up my Huda Beauty Desert Dusk palette though, I knew I had to use it.

I haven't reached for this palette very often. Which is sad, because every time I use it I love the look I create. It's just not my go to for going shopping or grabbing lunch or what have you.

When I initially looked at it, my brain immediately went to the shimmer shades. But then I had a thought. I'd never used the shade Cosmo. Mainly because it was a pressed glitter. I've never used any type of loose or pressed glitter. I've only dabbled in liquid glitters such as the Stila Glitter and Glow shadows or the Colourpop Super Nova shadows. But as soon as I swatched it, I knew I had to at least TRY to create a look with it.  I'd say I was fairly successful.

After priming and setting my eye primer with a translucent powder, I started by dusting Desert Sand all over my lid. I then took Eden and placed that in my crease and slightly above as a transition shade. Then I reached for Musk and threw that in my crease as well just to add a little definition. Then I went in with Amber as my true crease color. I put this slightly below Musk (just enough to still be able to see a hint of that cool brown tone. For my outer v and to deepen the crease, I took Oud and made sure to get it almost perfect before adding the glitter, just to avoid major fall out (even though I was doing my eyes before the rest of my face).

Next came the start of the show, Cosmo. I put down a thin layer of my Nyx Glitter Primer, being sure to do one eye at a time. Yes, I did get some fall out, but I just wiped it away with some makeup remover (huzzah for doing eyes first). But overall, I'd say this was almost too easy. I'm not sure why I didn't try using any kind of non liquid glitter before. Now I'm intrigued and want to try more!

Once the rest of my face was done, I took Oud on a definer brush right up against my lower lash line and blended it out with a mixture of Musk and Eden. I gave everything a final blend and VOILA! Glitter Bronze Eyes!

I'm very happy with the way this turned out. To round out the warm toned eyes, I used a neutral but slightly warm toned/bronze leaning blush, the Japonesque Velvet Touch Blush in 02. I'm always changing up my highlight. But for this look, I started with a base of the Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer (under my powder products; this is a standard step for me now). On top I applied Fuego from the DesiXKaty collection with Dose of colors. Just to add a little extra dimension, I used the lightest shade from the Smashbox Pearl Spotlight palette.

To top everything off, I applied the new MAC X Patrick Starrr lipstick and lipglass in MamaStarrr which is quickly becoming my favorite combo. The color is PERFECTION!

I also used the MAC X Patrick Starrr powder. I'm still testing it out. I do really enjoy the finish it gives on my skin. Unfortunately, I'm not able to link the powder as it is sold out.

That's all for today! I hope you enjoy this look! The more I look at it, the more I LOVE the eye shadow! I need to recreate this again!

What's a makeup technique you're hesitant to try? What's one thing you desperately want to learn? As always let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see me try, talk about, review, etc. I'll list the rest of my makeup details below.

Hi friends,

I was hoping my first post of the new year would be happy-go-lucky and fun. However, recent events have decided otherwise. Let's just get down to the nitty gritty.

This post is dedicated to why I will NOT be purchasing (or hell, even swatching) the new Tarte Shape Tape foundation.

Probably one of the most anticipated foundations of the year, Tarte's Shape Tape foundation ended up being the most disappointing product of the year. I'm not sure they will be knocked off the top spot by the end of December.

I don't know about you, but I love Tarte's Shape Tape concealer. It's my go to when I need something to hold up. I've been dying for a Shape Tape foundation since getting my hands on the concealer. So when they teased the launch of this product, I damn near lost my mind. Most of the beauty community did. But then...

PopSugar posted an article all about the new product (link). In the exclusive first look article, PopSugar displays all of the shades for both the hydrating and matte foundations.

Do you notice anything off about these?

Aside from the fact that even the person who's arm is covered in swatches doesn't have a shade match, there's 3 shades (at best) for deeper skin tones in each formula. Now I say deeper, not deep because there are definitely people who have deeper complexions that the deepest shade created.

On the heels of Fenty Beauty and Huda Beauty's foundation launches, Tarte has failed to the truest meaning of the word. Even the new NARS foundation debuted with 33 shades.  Granted, I understand if a brand wants to start with a smaller selection of shades, but make it evenly distributed across the spectrum.

When this was viewed by the public, outrage was cast across social media. But what did Tarte do? They deleted comments, turned off commenting functions on posts, and didn't address the issue at hand. They decided to try to save face by saying they are releasing 10 additional shades (which will only be 5 per formula). And I bet you anything those shades will be more light to medium ones. But what were Tarte's exact words for their reasoning for the underwhelming shade selection? Well, according to this PopSugar article,

"Additional shades are usually added seasonally, which makes sense because your complexion tends to be paler in the Winter and darker in the summer months."

If it sounds like BS, and looks like BS, chances are it's BS. Tarte is trying to cover their butts because of the backlash. No apology necessary when you have this kind of logic on your side, right? They also state that the 10 additional shades have been in process since before the launch.... But then why now just wait and launch everything together? They claim they "all just got caught up in #shapetapenation". So being caught up in something produces a racist and discriminatory result? Your logic is flawed.

Tarte has no remorse for ostracizing so many people just based on the color of their skin. They are not taking responsibility for their decisions. They are making excuses. Shouldn't we be better than this in 2018? Oh... and did I mention the foundation went live on Martin Luther King Day?

I'm still trying to fathom who sat around a table in a board room and thought this was a good idea. Did not one person speak up? Did not one person point out how damaging this could be to not only their business, brand, and reputation, but also to people's self confidence?

Granted I cannot speak to that last piece as I am fair skinned and have not been subjected to this kind of makeup discrimination.

I genuinely hope people make sure Tarte is held accountable for their actions whether or not Tarte wants to admit to any wrongdoing.  We, as a community, need to say ENOUGH.

This is all I have to say about the matter for now.

*I apologize if this post is rather discombobulated. I had so many thoughts whirling around my head it was hard to create a coherent flow.
